10/19/2008 Tip: learn to speak and understand French EnglishProblem: In France, people rarely speak English. When they have to speak it, say, in a formal conference, they send some fluent English-speaking geeks, making the non-French participants slightly retarded. Well, the true dilemma is that none of these retarded ones would have the guts to complain about these French guys’ accent because apparently, french accent seems quite stylish and “standard”. Any stigmatization against the pronunciation might be considered as a sorta culture discrimination. Solution: No panic. It’s actually quite easy to get familiar with French accent and avoid the bad-understanding from happening. This video is a wonderful standard French accent tutorial: If you are non-francophone, the prudent way is to spend 2 minutes watching the video above every time before you have an important meeting with Frenchmen. This friendly Indian accent will help you out. 10/9/2008 NAN Yang 南洋After a brief conversation, I got to know a new person. This is how I describe him, and how my glorious déjà-vu database has been enlarged once again:
NAN Yang 南洋Né en 1985 à Pékin, NAN Yang est un jeune chinois pur et dur, qui peut être facilement remarqué par un logo affichant une propagande communiste sur l’un de ses T-shirts préférés. Ayant un tel prénom chinois (Yang) qui signifie le soleil, il est culturellement censé devenir une personne énergique et sociale, malgré le fait qu’il se retrouve seul pour la plupart de temps, voire triste. Bien curieusement, quand il est triste, son sourire faussé peut tout de même nous ensoleiller. C’est avec une femme mystérieuse ayant le même âge que lui qu’il se sent mieux et qu’il essaie de faire disparaître toute sa tristesse dans une communication intime.
Se retrouvant dans une position stéréotypiquement féminine, il fait la cuisine et range sa chambre tous les soirs après les cours dans son école SUPELEC. Depuis son entrée dans cette fameuse école d’ingénieur en 2007, la pratique de ménage quotidienne joue un rôle significatif dans sa vie étudiante.
